We know it, and I’m sure you do too. Sustainability is not achieved with a single big action, but with many small decisions that, added together, make a difference.
In the pre-prepared convenience food line (peeled and cut fruit, ready to eat), under the Frutifresh brand, we have been making improvements in this direction for some time. Some of these improvements are almost imperceptible to the naked eye, but all are designed to reduce our environmental impact without compromising product quality or the consumer experience.
In 2025, we have taken a new step in this direction: all of our Frutifresh tubs now have removable labels, which facilitates subsequent recycling by the consumer.
What does it mean that the label is removable?
This means that it peels off easily from the packaging, leaving no residue or sticking. This means that, once the fruit has been consumed, the consumer can effortlessly separate the label, which is deposited in the blue container, from the rest of the packaging, which would go into the yellow container.
It seems a minor thing, but facilitating waste separation is key to improving recycling efficiency. Also to encourage a more conscious habit at home, making this task as easy as possible, which is often complicated by details as simple as a label that is difficult to remove.
In addition, our labels are printed with water-based inks, which do not contain solvents and reduce the environmental impact of the printing process.
And why labels instead of screen printing the plastic? Because screen printing, while it may be visually appealing, makes recycling more difficult.
Opting for independent and easily separable labels not only allows for greater plastic recovery, but also simplifies the process for everyone: from those who recycle at home to those who work in sorting plants.
Let’s put numbers to it
– As of this year, 100% of the labels that we apply to the Frutifresh fresh-cut range tubs are now removable and recyclable.
– Each year, we use nearly 4 million labels in the pre-prepared convenience food sector, or in other words, around 1600 kg of paper. This material will now be more easily recyclable.
We have also reduced plastic
This change in labeling is in addition to other measures we have been implementing since 2024:
-Substitution of 21.7g tubs for 18g models.
-Replacement of 11.7g tubs with lighter versions of 8.5 and 9.8g.
This represents a reduction of 3,766 kilos of plastic so far this year.
Thanks to these improvements, our tubs maintain product quality and presentation, but use fewer resources and weigh less per unit, which also improves logistical efficiency. And in 2026, the work continues, because the goal is to further reduce plastic volumes, both in tubs and films.
The objective: packaging in line with the product it contains
Frutifresh is quality fruit, fresh, convenient and natural. And we want its packaging to be up to the task. We want it to be functional, environmentally friendly and easy to manage at home and in recycling plants.
In addition to being 100% recyclable, Frutifresh tubs are made from recycled plastic, which further reinforces our commitment to a real circular economy and to reducing environmental impact from the source of the packaging.
For us, the commitment to sustainability does not end in the field or in the clean room. It is also decided in the design of a package, in the choice of an adhesive or in the ease with which waste can be separated.
We will continue to improve. Step by step, decision by decision.Because we know that every gesture counts.
