At Peris, we have long been committed to sustainability and reducing food waste. For this reason, we are collaborating with the Instituto de Agroquímica y Tecnología de Alimentos (IATA-CSIC) in a research project that seeks to extend the shelf life of our fresh-cut convenience fruit through new sustainable antimicrobial packaging.
The project is called SUSAMPACK and has been underway since 2022. Its goal? To create smart packaging that releases antimicrobial compounds only when the food starts to deteriorate, thus keeping the product fresh for longer.
From Peris we participate as the sole supplier of the product, providing sliced melon, tubs and films with which all the tests are being carried out. We think it is essential that science works with real product, and that is why we are delighted to be part of this research.
“This project is an opportunity to explore solutions that provide longer product life without sacrificing quality, and that do so based on science, innovation and respect for the environment,” explains Alberto Montaña, our general manager.
Less waste, more sustainability and more quality for those who choose our products. This is how we want to build the future of pre-prepared convenience food: from commitment, knowledge and collaboration.
